ABOUT LCRTA
Lake County Retired Teachers Association was founded August 4, 1966, at the Painesville City Board of Education office. A meeting was held with Robert L. Fleming of Youngstown, past president of ORTA, and a group of retired public school teachers to discuss the formation of the Lake County Chapter of RTA.
In attendance, Neil Giffin, William Snell, Oren Casey, Ruth Shaw, Marian Leuty, Lelia Knyeart and Evelyn St. Pierre. William Snell was elected temporary president and Neil Giffin was elected secretary. The mission of the group, with the aid of ORTA, was to send 130 letters of invitation to retired Lake County teachers.
A luncheon meeting was held at Studio Inn in Painesville, September 12, 1966, with 62 attendees. ORTA President, James McDowell was the guest speaker.
On October 12, 1966, Evelyn St. Pierre presented the first draft of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association Constitution. The constitution was adopted.
In 1967, the dues were established at $1.00 local membership and $2.00 for Ohio Retired Teachers Association membership. On March 7, 1967, seventy-four members paid dues and were considered the Founders of the Lake County Chapter of Retired Teachers.
In 1969, the first directory appeared with a logo on the cover designed by Ruth Shaw.

Kirtland Local School System, Madison Local School System, Mentor Public Schools, Painesville City Local School District, Riverside Local Schools, Perry Local Schools, Wickliffe City School District and Willoughby-Eastlake City School District.
